After the widespread success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” Hollywood seems to be looking for a subsequent big video game adaptation.

Warner Bros. Discovery has answered that call with “A Minecraft Movie,” based on the popular sandbox game “Minecraft.” The movie is set to be released in 2025 and features a stellar cast, including Jason Momoa and Jack Black.

Despite the game’s success, the film may not have the effect that Warner Bros. hopes. Let’s talk about the controversy surrounding “A Minecraft Movie.”

Fan Reactions to “A Minecraft Movie” Trailer

The teaser trailer for “A Minecraft Movie” was released on September 4th and was immediately met with backlash.

People quickly took to social media to express their reservations and disappointment with the trailer. One Reddit user called the film a “Minecraft knockoff of the new ‘Jumanji’ movies.” This is because the trailer makes it seem as though the main characters were transported into the Minecraft world, much like the newer “Jumanji” films.

While we don’t know much about what’s going on, they seem to be going through trials or puzzles. Many are also put off by the CGI design of the Minecraft world, including that of the animals.

Some think “A Minecraft Moviewill follow in the footsteps of Sonic the Hedgehog,” where the studio did a full redesign of Sonic after poor audience feedback.

YouTuber Tyrecordslol posted a video to his over four million subscribers detailing his disappointment with the teaser trailer. He described the joy of playing “Minecraft,” and the fun that he, and so many others, have had with the game. He echoes the sentiments of many fans who want Warner Bros. Discovery to pull an “ugly Sonic move” and redo the CGI and animated portions of the movie.

However, “A Minecraft Movie” has already concluded its filming, and any changes made would have to match the work that the actors have already done.

The Jason Momoa Controversy

Momoa is certainly an actor that was meant to draw audiences to the theater to see “A Minecraft Movie” but it might do the opposite.

Streamer Rachell Marie Hofstetter, better known as Valkyrae, claims that she witnessed the “Aquamanactor mistreat the crew. Hofstetter did a cameo in the film and claimed that Momoa was the worst celebrity experience she’s had.

On a dual stream, she described Momoa’s alleged awful behavior: “I just saw him mistreat some of the crew, and it was pretty disappointing. It was a very emotional scene, so maybe he was still in character, I don’t know, but I was kind of surprised by how he treated some of the crew, he was just really mad at them that they weren’t doing something right, like setting up the shot. He was just angry, really mad, and yelling. So I was like, ‘Man, this is not a good work environment.’ I would not be happy to work under those conditions.”

Hofstetter hadn’t gone into detail about what exactly Momoa said, but it clearly was awful enough.

This isn’t the first time that Momoa has had allegations of poor behavior on set. There was even an instance where he was said to have allegedly been drunk on the set of “Aquaman 2.”

Can “A Minecraft Movie” Be Saved?

While “A Minecraft Movie” has disappointed fans so far, they aren’t completely writing it off yet.

Fans calling for them to redo the CGI, which means they’re still willing to try to see the movie if things are appropriately changed.

But, with an odd storyline and actor drama behind the scenes, the success of “A Minecraft Movieis questionable. Regardless, it comes to theaters in April 2025.

What do you think about “A Minecraft Movie”? Can it be saved like “Sonic the Hedgehog”?
