Lana Del Rey has experienced incredible success on TikTok. All of her songs, even the super old and unreleased ones, have blown up again, and people are using them like crazy in their posts.

It’s undeniable that Lana’s songs are incredibly well-written, and her voice is ethereal. With so many young artists discovering and resonating with her older music on TikTok, I think it’s safe to say we’ll see an influx of Lana-esque music in the next couple of years.

One artist in particular who often draws comparisons to Lana is Remy Bond. The first time I heard her song Summer Song on my For You page, I honestly thought it was a new Lana track.

Some people argue that she’s completely ripping off Lana’s music. While it’s hard to imagine that Lana isn’t a huge artistic inspiration for her, Remy is only twenty years old. She is still figuring out her style and the direction she wants to take with her music, and it’s not surprisingly she’s taking pointers from others.

But even more well-known celebrities seem to be drawing inspiration from Lana Del Rey—at least, that’s how it appears to me.

Recently, Addison Rae released a single called Diet Pepsi. It did really well. I like the song—it’s catchy and sounds great. But something about it bothers me.

Every Lana fan knows she loves to use soda flavors as song titles, like Diet Mountain Dew, Cola, and A&W. (On a side note, how stoked must those companies be to get that kind of free celebrity endorsement?!)

You might think it’s a stretch to say Addison copied her just because she named her song after a soda too. But there are also some lyrical similarities in Diet Pepsi with Lana’s style and songwriting.

Lyrics to Lana’s song Love Song from her 2019 album Norman F*cking Rockwell, include, “In the car, in the car, in the backseat, I’m your baby,” and “In your car, I’m a star, and I’m burnin’ through you,” delivered like poetry. Actually, it’s the opening verse.

Meanwhile, Addison Rae’s Diet Pepsi lyrics say, “When we drive in your car, I’m your baby (so sweet), losing all my innocence in the backseat.” They’re suspiciously similar, in my opinion, making the soda title just the cherry on top.

Though she’s a Millennial, not Gen Z, even pop superstar Taylor Swift—who’s career is arguably bigger than Lana’s—seems to take inspiration from the sultry, vintage siren. Even the most devout of Swifties acknowledge that Swift’s latest music emulates Lana’s vocal and musical style.

When Taylor featured Lana on her song Snow on the Beach from her 2022 album Midnights, fans were quick to point out that Lana’s part in the song was too small for someone of her talent.

To be fair, Taylor rarely lets other artists have big features on her songs. Consider Post Malone’s single, 20-second verse on Fortnight. For the most part, Malone is just back up vocals.

Surprisingly, Swift seemingly responded to the fandom’s criticism by re-releasing the song. This time, Swift gave Lana a larger role and called the re-release Snow on the Beach (feat. More Lana Del Ray).

I personally love Lana’s musical style, so I don’t mind if other artists create music that sounds similar. The more the better.

But Lana’s resonance with up-and-coming Gen Z and the generation at large, coupled with adoration from some of the biggest names in music suggests the vintage classic singer’s style will endure for the long haul.
