Fine, I’ll just say it: Amanda Seyfried should have been cast as Glinda in the new Wicked movie instead of Ariana Grande.

It’s been way too long since we’ve seen Amanda in a musical. Her last one was Mamma Mia, which is, in my humble opinion, one of the best musicals of all time.

She was so iconic in that film, and it’s honestly one of the only musicals I can watch over and over again and still know every word to every song. Amanda has such a beautiful, natural singing voice.

When she sings, it’s like a little treat for us and just feels special. Her voice has this effortless charm and warmth that I think would have been absolutely perfect for a role like Glinda. Plus, she’s an incredibly versatile actress who can bring depth and humor to any character she plays.

The thing is, we don’t hear it often since she doesn’t make music or get cast in musicals frequently.

Meanwhile, Ariana Grande is undeniably talented—her song Just Like Magic is one of my favorites. If the filmmakers were after her star power for Wicked, they could’ve worked that track into the movie somehow—it feels like it fits the vibe perfectly.

But casting her as Glinda? I’m not so sure. Ever since news broke about her being cast in the role, that’s all anyone can talk about—well, that and her highly publicized relationship with Wicked co-star, Ethan Slater (you might know him as “the SpongeBob guy”).

Ariana and Ethan’s relationship drama overshadows the film. Instead of celebrating Wicked as the exciting movie-musical adaptation it is, everyone’s attention is on their behind-the-scenes personal lives.

Honestly, it’s exhausting. The film deserves its spotlight, but instead, we’re caught up analyzing the cast’s romantic entanglement, which only serves to from the story itself.

Had Amanda had been cast? Please. None of this chaos would’ve even made it past the group chat.

What makes this sting even more is that Amanda actually auditioned for Glinda’s role. Yes, she wanted it. She’s talked about it being her dream role repeatedly over the years. Moreover—she would have crushed it.

A video of Amanda singing Popular (Glinda’s iconic number) surfaced recently and has been making rounds on social media. The video has already racked up millions of likes and thousands of comments.

“We were robbed,” TikToker Mil says—and that’s how I feel, too.

Can you imagine a 2024 musical starring Amanda Seyfried? It would’ve been everything and more. She’s also just so chill and likable—there’s this casual photo of her grocery shopping at Whole Foods that I’m obsessed with.

Amanda Seyfried as Glinda would’ve given us the perfect mix of nostalgia, talent, and freshness without all the unnecessary, irrelevant, distracting details.

As much as I enjoy Ariana’s music, I haven’t looked at her the same way since that infamous donut-licking incident.

It’s not the worst of celebrity antics, I get that. But all I’m saying is, I don’t think Glinda the Good Witch would do something like that. Wicked with Amanda Seyfried would’ve been iconic, timeless, and probably a lot less messy.

Here’s to hoping someone finally casts her in another musical, because we need more Amanda singing on the big screen ASAP.

Justice for Amanda Seyfried!
