Singer Chappell Roan took to TikTok to clarify the recent comments from fans that landed her in political hot water.

Just a week after fellow mega pop stars Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish announced their endorsements of the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, the “Good Luck Babe!” singer chose to stay relatively silent, stating that there are “so many issues with our government in every way.”

Chappell Roan’s Doesn’t Choose a Side

During an interview with The Guardian, the “Pink Pony Club” singer claimed she doesn’t “feel pressured to endorse someone. There’s problems on both sides.” Roan continued, “I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote — vote small, vote for what’s going on in your city.”

Roan closed her political comments in the interview by stating that “trans rights” were a top issue that she wanted to see on voters’ minds this year. “They cannot have cis people making decisions for trans people, period,” she said.

Chappell Roan’s Comments Spark Outrage

While it is clear that Roan leans liberal based on her comments, many people took to the internet with uninformed and bad-faith interpretations of the singer’s decontextualized comments.

Many condemned the artists for “both sides-ism” ahead of the 2024 presidential election between former President Donald Trump and Harris.

While the singer comes from the ultra-conservative state of Missouri, the singer took to TikTok to address the comments about her political affiliation.

“I have encouraged people to use critical thinking skills to learn about what they’re voting for, learn about who they’re voting for, and ask questions, and it’s being completely taken out of context, per usual,” the singer said in a Sept. 24 video posted to the social platform.

Roan continued, “Hear from my mouth if you’re still wondering: No, I’m not voting for Trump, and yes, I will always question those in power, and those making decisions over other people. I will stand up for what’s right and what I believe in. It’s always at the forefront of my project, and I’m sorry that you fell for the clickbait.”

Chappell Roan Sets a Boundary With the Pubic

This isn’t the first time Roan has gone to social media to set boundaries with the public.

In August, Roan posted a lengthy statement to her Instagram which read, in part, “I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions, and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you s***… I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.”
