Stranger Things will begin its final adventure in 2025.
Netflix celebrated “Stranger Things Day” by releasing a teaser for the long-awaited Season 5. The upcoming season will be the final farewell adventure from the gang we watched grow up on TV.
What do the Duffer Brothers and the town of Hawkins have in store for us?
Here’s everything we know so far about Stranger Things, season 5.
What Is the Final Season About?
The final season will likely see the gang of teenagers reunite after their cross-country adventures to battle Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the evil seeping into the real world from the Upside Down in the last season.
According to the teaser trailer, the eight episodes are titled:
- The Crawl
- The Vanishing of…
- The Turnbow Trap
- Sorcerer
- Shock Jock
- Escape From Camazotz
- The Bridge
- The Rightside Up
Fans championing the upcoming series finale based on the attention to detail in the episode’s names.
The Rightside Up, which will act as the series finale, is believed to be a call back to the Season 1 finale episode, The Upside Down.
“They cooked with ‘The Rightside Up’. Full circle moment. I know it’s going to be the biggest season yet!,” user @TheSuperAJTV wrote in the teaser’s YouTube comments section.
However, the most interesting episode title is Escape From Camazotz.
Many fans speculate that the title references Madeleine L’Engle’s sci-fi novel, A Wrinkle in Time. In the novel, the planet Camazotz is controlled by the Black Thing and IT, the latter of which is a disembodied brain that controls the people of the planet with its powerful telepathic abilities, much like Vecna’s and Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) powers.
The creators and showrunners of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, have a deep love for all things sci-fi and nostalgic, so it will be interesting to see how Camazotz plays into the season’s midpoint.
The teaser suggests the upcoming season takes place in the fall of 1987—four years after the events of Season 1.
How much has changed since then? Will the characters have grown enough to defeat the evil threatening the world around them?
Guess we’ll find out next year.
When Will the Stranger Things Season 5 Stream?
While the video announces that Stranger Things will come out next year, there is no set date for the season’s streaming drop. The final season will likely drop sometime during late summer, based on the release timing of the last four seasons.
However, a drop does not mean that the entire series will be available to binge right away. Netflix released the last season in two parts, nearly five weeks apart, with the final two episodes running nearly three and a half hours.
Will the same situation happen this time around? Or will things be different as we all gear up to say goodbye to this beloved series?
The End of an Era
Eight years have passed since Netflix released the first season of Stranger Things, and a lot has happened since then—both in the real world for the actors and in the fictional town of Hawkins. The once preteens are now adults, something the show’s forerunner’s integrated into the final story line, according to David Harbour.
In a panel interview at New York Comic Con 2024, Harbour gave a little insight on what’s to come.
“In that episode, episode eight…they land the plane. It is the best episode ever done,” Harbour says. “At the end of the episode…just reading it…people started crying. Tt’s so well done, and so beautiful. You guys will love it.”
Goodbyes are hard—but waiting two years for the epic finale feels even harder. Will it all be worth the wait?
It is hard to say when we still don’t know how long we have to wait.
