Nobody expected Lady Gaga to announce that her new album, “Harlequin,” would drop this soon.

On social media, Lady Gaga described the 13-track project as a “companion album” to “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the sequel film to “Joker” in which she stars as Harley Quinn. The film’s new album’s tracklist and cover artwork are featured in the social media post.

Why Is Lady Gaga Releasing an Album?

Similar to Ariana Grande’s promotion of her upcoming musical film “Wickedthrough the makeup line REM, Lady Gage is promoting her upcoming film with Joaquin Phoenix through her most beloved medium: music.

While this could be a “stop-gag” release between “Chromatica” and Lady Gaga’s long-teased seventh studio album, “Harlequin” comes at the same time as billboards for “LG6.5” pop up around cities.

“LG6.5,” or “Harlequin,” will be released a week before her film hits theaters on October 4. Lady Gaga will release another album that day, too: “Joker: Folie à Deux (Music From the Motion Picture).”

When Is LG7 Coming?

The singer’s untitled seventh studio album has started to be teased to the public. After returning last month with her collaboration with Bruno Mars in “Die With a Smile,” Lady Gaga teased her upcoming studio album with Vogue

“There’s a lot of pain associated with this adventure,” Lady Gaga told the magazine about the album. “And when I start to explore that pain it can bring out another side to my artistry. When I’m here at this studio [Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La], I’m relaxed and I am able to face my demons and what’s remarkable is… that’s the music. I’m able to hear it back.”

Gage reveals that her fiance, Michael Polansky, was the one who pushed her to return to her pop roots.

“Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music,’” she said, with Polansky adding, “Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean into the joy of it. On the “Chromatica” tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

The Songs Featured in “Harlequin”

While we will have to wait for “LG7,” “Harlequin” promises us some of the experimental pop art that Lady Gaga is known for. While the singer is a risk taker, Lady Gaga has consistently elevated the pop genre.
