Love is Blind is arguably one of the most popular shows to come out of Netflix. The dating show is set in a new city in the U.S. each season and features about a dozen contestants who are trying to find love.
But there’s a catch. The contestants are separated into male-only and female-only rooms, before heading into “pods” for their dates, where walls block their view of each other.
The experience is designed to help contestants fall in love based on personality, not appearance, with the expectation that they’ll marry someone by the end of the experiment after just a few weeks.
The seventh and most recent season was set in Washington, D.C., and concluded on Oct. 30. Only two couples from the group, Ashley Adisoner and Tyler Frances, and Taylor Krause and Garret Hoseman, ended up getting married.
Season 7 was packed with drama and a love-to-hate cast, leaving viewers thirsty for more.
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait long. At the Season 7 reunion, hosts Vanessa and Nick Lachey announced that Love Is Blind Season 8 will premiere on Valentine’s Day 2025 and take place in Minneapolis, MN.
The season cast reveals are usually posted closer to the premiere date on Love is Blind’s Instagram, but three cast members from Season 8—Alex, Brittney, and Joey—joined the recent reunion to introduce themselves.
“Without giving too much away, what was it about living in Minneapolis that was having you struggle with finding the one that made you finally say, ‘I’m gonna go on Love is Blind?” host Vanessa Lachey asks Alex.
“I personally just prioritized other things in my life and work and friends and travel. It’s such a small community. It’s not like a major city, but it’s also not a small town. So you kind of see the same people over and over, and it’s a small bar scene. So yeah, I just never found the right person that clicked for me. But I’m excited to be here,” says a smiling Alex.
However, after a pretty brutal reunion, it seems some fans are less inclined to keep watching. There are many reasons for this shift, from people not liking the Lacheys as hosts to poor casting.
One relationship that was discussed extensively at the reunion was that of Hannah Jiles and Nick Dorka. Fans believed that Jiles was verbally abusive to Dorka during filming, and thought that the Lacheys stood up for Jiles rather than Dorka at the reunion.
On Love is Blind’s Instagram post announcing the Love Is Blind Season 8 cast, the comments were less than enthusiastic. On the contrary, many were full of anger and unwillingness to watch unless something changed.
“Nope. We really can’t keep going back to this show with high expectations for you guys to show us the worst cast and then not being able to hold them accountable” said user karinitax_.
“Oh no! Another one?! I hope they really look into these people this time! I swear this season was full of a bunch of immature people! I think the show has run its course after this season. The gaslighting and the verbal abuse on the men was incomprehensible! Were the women watching the same show we were? Good luck with love after this!” said melriebe1029.
One Reddit thread asks users: “Thoughts on the next Love is Blind season being in Minneapolis?
“Minnesota is pretty quirky, but I also feel like the other seasons haven’t had a sense of place unless you were from the city the season was filmed in and could recognize a place while watching. Minnesotans are also kinda passive-aggressive, nice on the surface and harsh underneath,” says user WhenItSnowsinApril.
“I’ve lived in both DC and Minneapolis. Dating in the Midwest was completely different than happy hour dating in DC. I’m pumped to see how dating in Minneapolis is shown on the new season,” says user 123ilovelaughing123.
Despite what they say, odds are, most fans will still tune in for Love Is Blind Season 8.
According to data aggregator Nielsen, the Netflix original’s viewer base has progressively grown with each season. In the first week after Season 7’s release, Nielsen clocked over 1.25 billion minutes of viewing time Season 6 clocked just over 900 million.
Either way, I for one can’t get enough of the drama and am patiently waiting to see what Minneapolis has to offer.
