Look, I’m not sponsored by AMC—scout’s honor. And for good measure, let me start by saying that neither I nor Trendy Matters receive any compensation for any of the links in this article.

Like you, I used to go to the movies maybe once or twice a month, spending around $20 per ticket. And, of course, on those outings, I’d treat myself to some overpriced popcorn and a slushy, justifying the splurge since I didn’t go to the theater often.

Then I became an AMC A-Lister. Not to be dramatic, but it changed my life. With AMC A-List, you can see up to three movies per week for $24 a month (at least in California; it may vary a bit by state). Somehow, I held off on signing up for way too long. Now I realize how much money I could have saved.

Besides saving money, it has had such a positive impact on me mentally. Before A-List, I’d never gone to the movies alone. Now, it’s one of my favorite ways to unwind.

Some might ask, “Why not just watch movies at home for free?”

But honestly, it’s like going to the gym—sometimes, you just need that change of environment to feel refreshed and alive again. A gym membership for movie lovers perhaps? Whenever I feel bored, antsy, or need to clear my head, I can head to the theater and see a film.

One could say that going to the gym strengthens you physically, while going to the movies strengthens you mentally (unless it’s a really sad movie…in which case, maybe not.)

Since I want to get my money’s worth, I’m checking out films I might’ve ignored otherwise, which has definitely broadened my taste.

One of my favorite A-List features is the Entourage option: If your friends are also A-Listers, you can add them on the app and reserve seats together without everyone scrambling to get their own tickets or dealing with seat numbers, online payments, and all that jazz.

With the rise of streaming services, it seems like fewer people go to the theater, which is a little sad to me. There’s something special about watching a film on the big screen, whether alone or with friends.

In a theater, you’re kind of forced to pay attention—no pausing or getting distracted by your phone, at least not without some bombastic side-eyes.

Because we’re constantly fed so much short-form content on apps like TikTok etc, I think we could all use a little help strengthening our attention spans—and the theater experience definitely does that.

Anyway, you get the gist. If you love movies, the AMC A-List is 100% worth it. If you don’t have AMC where you live, I feel for you. Kidding—but seriously, check if your local theater offers anything similar.
